I was trying to paint something from a dream, but I needed a much darker and more atmospheric quality than my usual watercolors do. So I started with a bunch of scrap boards and just painted a whole lot of ink textures on them and let them dry: [link]
Then started to work from there. I haven't gotten around to painting the dream yet, but I got a whole lot of other stuff out of it.
I really love your recent grayscale paintings. Your skills and technique are superb but these darker paintings have something extraordinary in them. Somehow they're even more mysterious and magical than your previous paintings (which are lovely) and personally I like these more. In this piece I love the minimalism and the details that only become visible when taking a closer look. Truly beautiful. I love your art, you're one of the most inspiring artists out here.
Thank you! I'm still experimenting with these, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. I'm hoping to do something larger once I get a bit more comfortable with it. Hard to plan a painting though because for the most part, they have been very impromptu. I just coat the paper and let the textures define what the image will be!
