I actually thought of two things - the myth of horses being created by Poisedian and the Last Unicorn. Anyways, great work!

This very much puts me in mind of The Last Unicorn... With how all of the unicorns were chased into the ocean. I'm curious if that was your inspiration for this or not...

Breathtaking! you have captured the powerful yet graceful nature so well, (Of course, all of your work is filled with grace!)

I've heard of the narwhale tales too, I wonder if that also inspired Peter Beagle while writing the Last Unicorn (I love the book, movie not so much:)

Y'know, I wondered where Beagle/Last Unicorn's writer got that idea. I understand, in Greek myth, horses were suposedly born from the sea/Neptune/Posideon. Didn't know about unicorns too ^_^

So beautiful...do you plan to color this? Interestingly, the Celtic goddess Epona/Eiocha was also said to be born of sea foam, and took the form of a white mare when she stepped foot on land. :)

Perhaps the concept predates the Last Unicorn, but still, the scene from the animation where they all come from the waves after they're freed... I don't know, the entire movie touched my soul and made a deep everlasting impression :) It's just too beautiful :)

Very pretty. I'd love to see it in color. And I like the way you make the unicorns look different than horses or deer, ad they should look.

Beautiful! I love your design for unicorns, and I've always pictured them much more like deer than horses, deer have more of that otherworldly grace than most other equines do. Interesting info on the legends there too...as much as I like to read about mythology and its creatures, I've never come across that. Thank you for sharing! I can't wait to see this in color if you ever plan on painting it. :D

Deer have more grace than horses because deer aren't equines. Equines, such as horses, zebra, donkeys, etc. are more power animals than anything else, built for stamina and living on plains/in grasslands. Deer, however, are cervids and have bodies that are suited for woodland terrain--that is, they have lithe, compact bodies and powerful legs built for sprinting and springing. :P

Horses are actually closer to rhinos than deer, as they're in the same order. Deer, however, are closer in relation to antelope, goats and sheep, cattle, and giraffes.

Thank you for the info, but perhaps I may have worded my comment wrong. I had intended to say that deer are a better model for unicorns precisely because they are not equines. On another note, it is curious that a "unicorn" seems to have appeared somewhere in Italy. A single horned deer actually. (I just thought that was interesting info to share :D)

Nice icon. :D

Aha. And yeah, I've heard some stories before about one-horned deer popping up sometimes. Seems like some sort of genetic/birth deformity, haha.

Thanks, I made it myself. :3
