An oak dryad illustration for a book.
I've had some people asking in the past for a step-by-step of my pencils because they think it looks like my watercolor for some reason! So here's that as well: [link]

I like how you've made the dryad inhuman with her elongated fingers and toes, yet kept her human enough that you could see how someone might mistake her for one (in bad lighting...if they were nearsighted) ;) I've never heard of wings on a dryad before, but it kind of looks like her hair swirling around so I'm alright with that. :)

Oh, beautiful :O_o:. So much details! And she's absolutely beautiful and unwordly - magnificent work! :+favlove:^^

I love how flowy and fluid everything is while so soft. So yes, I can see why some might mistake these for watercolor. A friend and I were discussing a dryad she drew when she was 12. I have to show her this.

What I like most are her fingers and toes. Though elongated, they look dainty, not dangerous.

Amazingly Clean pencil work!!
It....does kinda look like watercolour too, your pencil work almost looks liek greyscale watercolour work. IT's the softnesss and texture.
How nice of you to make a tutorial to share your secrets *visits that as well*
Anyway amazing detail and tone. very awesome!

This drawing is perfect. In every possible way, good concept with skills to match it. The tree is amazing, the way you drew the bark is quite original, making it look realistic though unreal at the same time. There are so many little details and the shading is so good, without all those blank spaces that are usually seen in a pencil drawing.
Great pic, instant fav.

Wow, thank you so much for putting that tutorial together! I have really been wondering how you go about doing such intricate pencil work on such a large scale.

I am just curious, how do you keep from leaning on the paper when you are working? Do you use something like tissue paper under your hand? Anyway, beautiful work as always.

I wouldn't say that elongated fingers and toes make her unhuman . . . Most fantasy creatures are based of deformaties cause by birth defects and diseases: elongated digits happens to be a birth defect.

Fantabulous!
There are absolutley no pencil lines! This is a really wonderfull render and I can understand why someone could mistake this for watercolour. It's so soft and the lines are so delicate.
Only thing I'd like would be details or a bigger version (but mabye there is one in the step-by-step version? I'm off to look at it now).
