From the moment I saw this banyan tree I knew I had to paint it. I'm always drawn to the ancients of the woods, whether they are my own familiar oaks and redwoods, or denizens of stranger paths. When coming across these twisted elders in the wilds, it is easy to understand animism, for how could something so glorious and unique not have a spirit?

The only time a character is ever allowed to sparkle in sunlight is if they grabbed a Super Star from the Mario games!

Real vampires don't sparkle. They just don't.

A beautiful piece of work!

I've found that, particularly with old trees, there's a sense of emotion around them. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, but I've never been able to figure out if it was coming from the trees or drawn to them. Either way, you don't need to count the rings to tell how old they are, you just need to stand next to them to feel it.

This turned out especially lovely. One of these days I'll have to tackle the banyan we photographed in Lahina.

i feel like ive seen a jump in the depth of your art since you worked on the pieces outside your normal painting style several months ago. this and the green fairy are mind blowing. i love watching the progression of your art, especially when i didnt realize there was something more to do :) i am and will always be a huge fan.
