Inspired by the Chinese legend of the 10 Sun-Birds who one day descended upon the earth. In order to restore order and save the lands from being scorched to cinders, the Archer God Houyi was called on. He shot down all but one of of the birds.

Beautiful! I think perhaps a few darker areas to create more contrast might help the birds and tree pop out more as well as the larger glowing bird. Really nice, cool legend

*le gasp* I love that story! <XD But weren't the sun birds/crows suppose to have 3 legs? but i might be getting my legends mixed up since it's been a while since I've read that one.

But if the birds are there to save the lands....why is Houyi shooting them down?

Beautiful piece anyway. To me if seemed as if the guy was protecting the birds from the oncoming darkness.

This is absolutely wonderful Stephanie! How did you get such a lovely peach color in the background? Whenever I use shades of pink, peach and orange, I end up having to be careful as to not get the colors muddy looking.

It was one of my orangey Kremer Pigments. Mixed in a bit of Alizarin Crimson in the darker areas.

Ah okay was wondering about that. I've actually found that making oranges with Rose Madder or Permanent Rose makes an interesting shade. Not sure if you would want to try that or not but I think one of my most vibrant oranges was mixing Vermilion Hue with Cadmium Yellow.
